Sending document requests
4 min read
A document request is a checklist of the specific files that unblock one filing. The client gets a link, uploads what they have, and the checklist ticks itself off. There is no client login and no portal to explain.
Raise a request
Documents → New request
Pick the client, and the deadline it unblocks if there is one. Linking it means the Risk Center can show why that filing is stuck.
List the items
One line per document: 'Bank statements for the quarter', 'Sales invoices'. Be specific — the list is what the client sees, and vague items come back wrong.
Add the client's email
This is what enables automatic chasing. Without it the request still works, but you will be doing the chasing yourself.
Send the upload link
Get upload link on the request. Send it to the client, or let the first automatic chase do it.
What the client sees
A single page with your practice's name, your checklist, and an upload button. No account, no password, nothing to install.
The link is scoped to that one request and expires after 14 days. It cannot be used to see anything else about the client, and it gives no access to your practice.
How a request progresses
- Pending — nothing has arrived yet.
- Partial — some items are in. Chasing continues, for the rest only.
- Received — everything is in. Chasing stops automatically.
- Cancelled — you no longer need it. Chasing stops.
You can also tick items off by hand, for anything that arrives by email or on paper. Chasing responds to the checklist, not to how the document reached you.
